Yearly Program Reminders
- January Initiation ceremony for new post members, good time to pass out flags to schools, go over and teach the flag code to local schools. and plan for March (community Service month.
- February Americanism Month Host a four chaplains Day program. (School awards, sponsor religious emphasis activities. Host or observe Abraham Lincoln’s and Gorge Washington’s birthdays.
- March Community service month (recognize those post members that preformed community service in the previous year). American Legion birth day March 15-17. Possible open house.
- April Children and youth month plan election of officers. Scouting activities and boys state and girls state.
- May National Poppy week, Memorial Day, Armed Forces Day, Mother’s Day (activities for one of these or all of them, consider hosting some type of function.) consider honoring military personnel in communities with Blue star Salute, or gold star salute. Honor veteran gravesite. End of year awards at schools
- June 14th is Flag day, develop a plan to engage veterans, possible survey people and business in the community Ask who flies flags on patriotic holidays.
- July community 4th of July celebration. Certify new officers.
- August Begin planning a community Veterans Day observance.
- Sept National Disaster Preparedness Month: Patriot day Sept 11, Sept 17 is constitution day, third Friday is MIA/POW Recognition day.
- Oct Organize and Participate in Halloween safety programs.
- Nov Veterans Day NOV 11, celebrate Bells of Peace, American Education Week. (Plan something for the teachers and principals) Nov 23 to Nov 27 National care Giver Week.
- Dec Perla harbor day DEC 7, holiday season begins,
